The main conservation areas in the Trang An scenic complex

Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex near Tam Coc Ninh Binh includes a number of recognized main conservation areas located adjacent to each other with a total area of 4,114 hectares, accounting for 66% of the total area of the Heritage Area, of which there are 3 main items, including: Ancient Capital Hoa Lu, Trang An-Tam Coc-Bich Dong Scenic Area and Hoa Lu Special-use Forest. Hoa Lu ancient capital has an area of 315 hectares and was ranked as a “national historical, cultural and architectural relic site” in 1962. In May 2012, this relic was classified as a relic by the Prime Minister. Special Country under the Cultural Heritage Law 2001, as amended in 2009.

The title of “Special National Monument” with Hoa Lu Ancient Capital near Tam Coc Ninh Binh has an important meaning in the national history and connects the stages in the nation’s history; This is recognized as a relic with special architecture of Vietnam. This area has many temples, pagodas, mausoleums, steles and caves that have been recognized as national monuments by the State.

Trang An-Tam Coc-Bich Dong scenic area was ranked as “Special National Monument” by the Prime Minister in May 2012 with a total area of 2,299.4 ha. This scenic area is a combination of two national monuments, the Tam Coc-Bich Dong Scenic Area of 350 hectares and the Trang An Scenic Area of 1,949 hectares. This is an area with many special national values in terms of natural landscape, architecture and geological and geomorphological values of Vietnam and the world. Some temples, cave pagodas, steles and mountains are also classified as national monuments.

Hoa Lu special-use forest covers an area of 1,500 hectares, planned in 2005, is a conservation area for natural ecosystems and biodiversity, protection of historical and cultural relics and landscapes, scientific research, entertainment and tourism.

Currently, the heritage site management plan (built in 2015 under the guidance of the Department of Cultural Heritage, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the National Council of Cultural Heritage and experts of the Council of Monuments and Heritage International Union for Conservation of Nature – ICOSMOS, an expert of the International Union for Conservation of Nature – IUCN) is being implemented to protect, manage, use sustainably, preserve and promote the value of the Heritage Site, especially the solve the problem of tourism management and archeology.

This is also the legal basis for the implementation of Vietnam’s international commitments and obligations in protecting, preserving, embellishing, introducing, promoting the value and transferring the heritage of Trang An Scenic Area near Tam Coc Ninh Binh to the world. future generations in accordance with the spirit of the World Heritage Convention.
