Poetic green fairy near Tam Coc Ninh Binh

Cuc Phuong forest is located at 2014 – 20°24′ North latitude; 105°29′ – 105°44′ East longitude. From Hanoi, follow Highway 1 to Gian Khau, turn left through Me town, Nho Quan to Cuc Phuong near Tam Coc Ninh Binh. In the south, go through Tam Diep city to Ria or from Thach Thanh district (Thanh Hoa) to Ria and go to Cuc Phuong. From Ho Chi Minh Highway, tourists turn through Yen Thuy district – Hoa Binh down to Nho Quan to enter Cuc Phuong – a rare mountainous area that many people call the “Green Fairy” majestic and poetic. The forest has an area of 22,200 hectares, belonging to 3 provinces: Ninh Binh accounts for more than half of the area, 11,350 hectares; Hoa Binh 5850 hectares; Thanh Hoa 5000 hectares. This place is divided into 3 distinct functional areas:

The strictly protected area is 20,745 hectares (of which 20,062 hectares is natural forest near Tam Coc Ninh Binh, 285 hectares of bare land that needs forest restoration, 398 hectares of other land). Absolutely maintain and protect the original natural conditions, intact natural resources, and landscapes of historical and cultural relics that have existed since the beginning of time. The specialized area has 734 hectares, mainly for service activities, administrative management, scientific research, museum library, experimental botanical garden, animal breeding area, motel, road system… The buffer zone is the area surrounding the above two areas that is open for birds and animals to live, avoiding harmful human activities. Cuc Phuong Research Sub-Institute operated for 3 years (1969 – 1971).

Through surveying and researching forest plants, the first Cuc Phuong Flora List was published in 1971, including 1,614 species of higher plants of 189 families and 75 orders belonging to the Cuc Phuong flora area near Tam Coc Ninh Binh. Cuc Phuong scientists continue to keep pace with research and have found and supplemented the existing Cuc Phuong: 2,448 species of higher plants, mosses, and fungi; In which: Phylum Decision Plant has 31 families, 57 genera, 149 species; The Gymnosperm phylum has 3 families, 3 genera, 3 species; The Angiosperm phylum has 154 families, 747 genera, 1588 species; including 118 rare species, 724 species of medicinal plants, 229 species of edible plants, 24 species of plants that can make dyes, 137 species of plants that produce tannin. The outstanding point of Cuc Phuong is that the area is only 1/700 of the North’s area and 1/1,500 of the country’s area, but Cuc Phuong’s flora accounts for a very high proportion of 76% of families, 48.6%. of genera and 30% of species in the North and accounts for 68.9% of families, 43.6% of genera, and 24.6% of existing species in Vietnam.
