Pham Hap

Pham Hap was a martial general of the Dinh Dynasty and also one of the loyal officials of King Dinh Tien Hoang. He is from Tra Huong village, Nam Sach, Hai Duong. According to Pham Con Son’s book of genealogy of the new yearbook, citing the family genealogy of Pham, he was the 8th ancestor of General Pham Ngu Lao in the Tran Dynasty. He was listed by “Viet Su Tan Bien” in the list of “Giao Chau Seven Heroes”, ie 7 heroes of Giao Chau at that time including: Dinh Bo Linh, Dinh Lien, Le Hoan, Dinh Dien, Nguyen Bac, Pham Hap and Pham. Pham Hap was born into a family with a martial arts tradition. His grandfather, Pham Lenh Cong, held the post of General of the Army of the Ngo Quyen dynasty. His father is Pham Man, a political admiral in the Ngo Nam Tan dynasty, Ngo Xuong Van, and his mother is Tran Thi Hong. They have eight children, 5 boys and 3 girls all outstanding. From a young age, Pham Hap showed his intelligence, great will, and understanding of martial arts. He often and his younger brother Pham Cu Lang bring money to attract people, buy horses to train troops.

When Dinh Bo Linh raised an army to quell the rebellion of 12 warlords, Pham Hap and his brother brought more than 2,000 people and horses from their hometown to Hoa Lu near Tam Coc Ninh Binh to support Dinh Bo Linh. Dinh Bo Linh received and appointed both his brothers as pioneer generals to quell the rebellion. Pham Hap was promoted to the rank of General of the General Staff. Pham Hap’s greatest feat was the one who defeated and slashed Nguyen Khoan’s army in Tam Dai. In the year of Mau Thin (968), after finishing the rebellion of 12 warlords, Dinh Bo Linh was crowned Emperor, ie Dinh Tien Hoang De, named the country Dai Co Viet, and stationed the capital in Hoa Lu near Tam Coc Ninh Binh. Pham Hap was ordained as an official of Ve Uy, a close mandarin of the king.

In 979, King Dinh and Nam Viet King Lien were murdered, and King Dinh Toan was only 6 years old when he was crowned in Hao Lu near Tam Coc Ninh Binh. The great ministers Dinh Dien, Nguyen Bac and Pham Hap saw that Vice King Le Hoan’s authority was too great and started an army against Le Hoan, but all three generals were quickly crushed by Le Hoan. In the list of generals of the Dinh dynasty, there are 25 generals who are loyal ministers to the Dinh dynasty, opposing Le Hoan’s seizure of the Dinh house: Dinh Dien, Dinh Sai Swimming, Do Quang, Do Huy, Ly Pha, and Ly. Hoang, Ly Quang, Nguyen Bac, Pham Hap, Trinh Minh, Trinh Tu, Luu Lang, Ly Dai, Ly Trau, Ly Quoc, Luong Tuan, Vo Trung and 8 loyalists in Khong Trang An. Pham Hap was executed by Le Hoan. However, his younger brother Pham Cu Lang was still trusted by Le Hoan as a general under his command.
