Peaceful Phat Diem tile bridge

As one of the five ancient tile bridges with the most unique architecture in Vietnam, Phat Diem tile bridge near Tam Coc Ninh Binh has spent more than a hundred years quietly reflecting on the An River and has become a special symbol of the Kim Son land. The bridge has a rainbow-curved shape, roofed with tiles, two rows of wooden columns and ironwood bars as a very strong railing. The bridge has 3 spans, each span has 4 spaces. The houses on the bridge are arranged very airy. Columns, trusses, forks, locks, trusses, sesame… are all made of ironwood. The length of this bridge is 36m, the width is 3m. This is also the longest tiled bridge compared to the tile bridges in Nam Dinh, Hue, Quang Nam, and Hanoi.

It is known that in the past, the bridge was built to facilitate the parishioners on the other side of the river to go to Mass at Phat Diem Stone Church. Phat Diem tile bridge has a light and elegant appearance, showing the special creative talents of the Catholic people. This is considered a rare bridge and has the highest artistic value among ancient bridges in Vietnam.

Over a long period of time, Phat Diem tile bridge near Tam Coc Ninh Binh still retains its ancient shape. After being repaired many times, the bridge body has been replaced by large wooden trees with reinforced concrete pillars and steel beams to create stability. With high aesthetic and artistic value, Phat Diem tile bridge was once selected as an image to be printed on postal and telecommunications stamps of Vietnam.
